I just wanted to let you all know that Restrained Desire , the second book in the heroes series, can now be ordered in print, from Amazon. If you're not the eReader type of person and you have been waiting patiently for it to be out in print, well, your wish has just been granted. New Release!! Restrained Desire

Everyone,

Book two in my heroes series is finally here. For all of you who read Fire and Desire (Book 1) and were waiting with baited breath for book 2, here it is... ;) Restrained Desire can be purchased from Parker Publishing's book store. It will also be loaded at Fictionwise sooner or later... Fictionwise does things in their own timing. LOL!

Restrained Desire is a Sensual Contemporary I/R Romance. I love this story and you know me, if I can't fall for the hero by the time I finish the book than it is a no-go. I fell hard for Mark. His sweetness and sincerity turned me inside out. As well as other things in the book, but I will not spoil it for you. You all know how I am, I would love to hear from you when you complete it.
Thank you for your patience. I hope the Veronica/Marks story were well worth the wait.

Hi, Everyone
Thank you all for the great messages of love and encouragement while I'm working hard to finish up my last semester in college. It is my beast of burden to carry. LOL. I am at the half way point with a few weeks remaining. I've now started to lose sleep, miss meals and found often dazing off in the distance or staring madly at the computer screen. :) But, I am pressing through.
Well, good news, Restrained Desire, book two of the Hero series will be out soon. I'll be uploading the cover soon for you all to check out.
Better news, I FINALLY HAVE A TITLE FOR BOOK THREE. That's right, you heard it here first. You all remember that unlike some authors, I can't work without a title. The title of a book means something to me. I've had a title changed on me several times by publishers and I bear with it. But, when I'm writing it becomes my banner, the thing that say "Get this story done". The hero and heroine reminding me to tell their story.
Thanks to contest winner: Felicia M. the book three title will be Evidence of Desire. Isn't it great? I love it. When I read it, it just spoke to me. Thanks to the other titles you all sent, very much appreciated. Some of them I will use for other stories because the sparked other ideas.

Hello Everyone,

I hope your summer has gone well. Time is ticking and school is looming for a lot of us. Whether we are taking classes or our kids and teens are headed back. This weekend in VA was tax free school shopping. So, the malls and stores were packed with a capital P. I didn't get the pleasure of cruising the mall with my pending third grader, because she is attending an academy where they wear uniforms. So, we just take care of that online. However, one great thing that I got to do this weekend is do a book signing in Richmond mall at Walden books with Jasmine Alexander. This was her first book and signing. If you have never heard of J.A. then let me do the honor of filling you in. J.A.'s first book is called Risk the Heart; which is the awesome cover you see before you. ;) Isn't the guy absolutely delicious?? The cover artist has done an amazing job. J.A. is a fellow Parker Publishing author. Readers and customers at the mall loved her cover and glancing at it know you all can see why. Jasmine is an African American contemporary romance writer. I thank all the great people in Richmond who stopped by to purchase their copy, chat, talk about the book and meet her. It is fabulous to be out and about and meet readers. If you all haven't had a chance to pick up her book, stop by your local bookstore or go online to Amazon, Borders or Barnes and Noble and snap it up. Hello Everyone,

Just to let you know I am still alive and kicking. ;) I have been doing a lot of book talks/book club meet and mingles. This weekend I had the absolute pleasure of being invited as the guest speaker for NProgress Consulting, LLC network meeting. It was awesome. To meet other local small business owners. There were web designers, podiatry doctor, a small grocery store owner, real estate broker, Mary Kay consultant, Avon consultant, MH Psychologist, Home staging consultant and others. In this day and time with the economy the way it is. It's great to meet small business owners even if you don't have a business of your own. They can assist you with the same GREAT services as large firms, with less cost, negotiable services and one-on-one customer service. Toya Moore the CEO of NProgress made this event happen in a seamless fashion. She saw a need in the community and brought everyone together. Job well done, Mrs. Moore!
Last month I met with W.I.N.E. (Women in Nature Essence) book club. Those ladies are TOPS! I told them they have set the bar high for ANY book club that follows them. They all had read the book. They had questions for me. Most of all they were open and honest about the book. I had a grand time. These women will always be special to me.
Other news on the home front, Caliente has been released in e-book. In a few months it will be out in print for those who want to flip the pages. I thank you all for your support and a special thanks to the ones who sent me book titles. I am dwindling down and believe I may have a title for book three. ;)

Great news! I received my edits back from my editor. Worked tirelessly through the night and returned them to her. So, now I come giving gifts. Well, a gift. Restrained Desire the second book in the hero's series will be released DECEMBER 2009. Just in time for Christmas. I'm ecstatic.
Here is a little sneak peek for all my faithful readers.
Restrained Desire
Beautiful dark-skinned Veronica Martinson is co-owner of an oceanfront hotel. Her life could not get any sweeter. But, when the aunt who has been a mother to her dies, she begins to yearn for more. Organized, driven and headstrong, Veronica is left with doubts about her personal life. She contrives a plan to get artificial insemination. When the hotel has a costume charity auction, Veronica’s anonymous bid wins her an evening with a man dressed as a cop--Mark Latten. Her search for a donor ends, when she decides brown hair, hazel-eyed Mark, her best friend and co-owner, would be the perfect father. The only problem is he refuses to assist her unless they conceived the child the old-fashioned way, beginning with a ring.
Veronica, who has always reached every goal she has set out to achieve, views the wedding to her friend as a snag in her overall plan. Unable to deny herself the baby she wants, they marry. Everything seems to be flowing by design until one event after another begins to shake the foundation of all of her hopes and dreams. She will soon realize that you can’t plan for love and sometimes dreams are fulfilled in unlikely packages.

Now, I'm working hard on my Masters and the third book in the series. But, I can't find a title. We have Fire and Desire, Restrained Desire and ... I draw a blank.

Here is some assistance in stimulate you brains. Fire and Desire hero is a Fireman. Restrained Desire hero is a cop. The third book features a doctor. (Not a traditional style doctor in a hospital) So, what I need is "something" Desire or "something" and Desire. Whatever you think of send it to me.

Well, it is my favorite month.... Hmm, could it be simply because February brings Valentine's Day? Yes, it is. As a romance writer, this is the month I shine. All writers of love beam brightly. Love is in the air, even for those who are single. They enjoy curling up on the couch with a good book. I'm so excited that I will be doing a book signing on this day. Greenbrier Mall in Chesapeake slipped me into a slot. ;)
I love shopping for book signing give aways, but during this time of year, I can't go wrong. Everything is covered with hearts and roses.
My hubby and I don't really do anything special for this day. We just enjoy a dinner together and curling up in front of a good movie. The same thing we have done for 10 years, just like the early days when we were pinching pennies. (Hey, we're still pinching them.) I even told him not to worry about a card, because I LOVE the one he gave me last year. I was reading it again today and got choked up. He is a wonderful man.
My eight year old daughter has found love this year. Boy, I would have loved to put that off for another 50 years. Okay, that's really my husbands wish..lol. Mine is until she finishes college. But, as most of you out there who are parents of little girls know that they move much faster now than we did when we were younger. So, with Valentine's Day happening for them at her school she HAD TO get her friend a special card and a small box of chocolates.
Yes, you guessed it, my hubby had a cow, sheep, coyotes, deer and elephant on the spot and I started looking up convents I could have her transferred to. lol!
Then I thought about it. Wait, their "dating" consist of them sitting in a seat across from one another on the bus. Their not in the same class and they only get to talk for three minutes from the school to his bus stop. I could live with that. In a few years, I know I'll be looking at this little relationship wishing her "love life" was still this easy.

Yes, We Can, Did and Are!!

Hello everyone,
It is a new year and a new start on sooo many levels. Today we will swear in our 44th president of the United States of America. Oh, isn't this a great country? I just can't wait until noon today. Because by the Constitution the office change at exactly 1200, so OBAMA has to finish at that time. I have chills just thinking about it. I've been watching CNN for the last three days, except when my daughter stayed up late last night to watch the kids Inaugural Celebration on Disney with "Michelle" and the girls. That was nice. My daughter had a blast and enjoys knowing that she and the presidents children love the same shows.
Well, this writing year for me has taken off. I'm working on several new projects to include book 3 (doctor) of my hero's series. I'm battling with a title for it right now... so, if any of you have a great title with Desire in it... shot it my way. LOL! Maybe I'll make it a contest. Restrained Desire (book 2, cop) should be out this fall. Fire and Desire (book 1, fireman) is still selling well.
Also, Caliente will be released in April. I'm not sure at the moment if that is the print release date or the eBook. Parker has started release Kindles. Which I think is great. It is great to have print in hand, but at the moment I need to conserve on space. ;) Heck, even Oprah has moved to buy books on Kindle.
Well, I'm going to pop by butt down on the couch now and continue to watch the inaugural events of the day.

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you have had an exciting Christmas with family and friends. I enjoyed my holiday this year. My family and I don't do anything unique we are just together. We have dessert and coffee on Christmas Eve, Big Christmas breakfast and then quite Christmas dinner with lots of laughter.

That's how I like it. Sometimes I wonder what it is like to jet-set all over the world for Christmas relaxing in first class style. But, the day after Christmas my heart is warmed every year with the family that I have. Crazy at time, but always a blessing.

Go,Monique... it's your birthday!!

That's right everyone,

It is my birthday week. I will be closer to 40 after Sunday than I will be to 30. Am I crying about it... nope. Because I have learned in life that with more years on God's earth comes more experience. More experience to me means more happiness in life. Everywhere I go, I keep seeing those signs that say 'Live, Love, Laugh'...! And I just smile. That what I have learned in 08... To live, love and laugh with the people around me (family, friends and even people who are no so close). Laughing adds health to your body and spirit to your day... better yet 'it good like medicine' so it's good for the soul. Lovin', well, I don't need to go there because I'm a romance writer and all that goes without saying. lol. But, to love others has just deepened the love I have for myself. As in to give love, you have to know how to receive it and believe that you are worthy of it. Not in a puffed up way, be just like appreciating fine china there is beauty to you.
I was talking with a friend the other day... and I told her that I love going to an English style tea house and that I LOVE when they give me a china cup with a chip in it. Why? Because that cup has been in that place for years and heard stories and listened to people life. That's how I feel this year. The more I live, the more of life I get to capture, sing through and dance around.
I guess a sistah is feeling a bit poetic this year. ;)
Well, for those of you who have missed me. I am back. I was away from home for 2 month in North Dakota... but I am glad to be home. I was able to spend time with a good friend. My best friend. We, laughed and listened to some good music and became CNN junkies. I have not seen any shows, not that with all my writing and signings I usually get to see shows, but still... I did nothing, but work, church and CNN.
Well, on the book front I will be spending my birthday at Military Circle Mall having a book signing. Fun!! Fun!! I will post tomorrow what time. If you are in the area stop by. I will be giving out treats for my birthday for ALL.

The Originality of an Author

I must say there is something moving or endearing about have a copy of an authors very first book. See, their original prose is more heart warming to me with all it's little quirks and nuisances. I just would like to say I smiled a lot when I read A Knights Vow, because it was Aliyah first work over art. One day when she is sitting on The View discussing romance writing and she is a New York Time best selling romance author I can say... I have the first thing she wrote and published. LOL!I love historicals and strong heroes and Aliyah Burke gave me both... hats off to you. This is one romance writer to keep your eye on.

Healing Hearts, bring it to a store near you...

This last month has been hectic for me in more ways than I have time to list. ;) I have been signing all over the place. I had the pleasure of being in Charleston, SC this past month. If you have never heard of the Book'em Foundation you are missing a treat. It is an organization put on by the Sheriff's Department in different cities. It started in Waynesboro by Mark Kearney and is branching out over the US. The premise behind it is that if you can teach a person to read you can stop the crime rate. "Buy a book, stop a crook". It is an excellent concept, that if you open a person's mind you can possibly prevent them from desiring to commit crimes.
Well, SC was great and I met some beautiful readers in a beautiful city.
Well, on to some even more exciting news, my book Healing Hearts is not only in print now, but it is being sold at major online book stores. So, swing over to Amazon or Barnes and Noble.com and pick up your copy.

Oceana NEX Book Signing

Hello Everyone,

I want to say that I had a great time signing at the Navy Exchange in Oceana. The staff was friendly and most of the customers (male and female) stopped by the table. I will definitely be going there again. I am working on a date in August. Well, I took Fire and Desire, as well as Vegas Bites Back and sold out of both of them. I was doing the happy dance. I never take my daughter (7 years old) with me to a book signing, but it was Mother's Day and she always asks to come with me, so I took her along. She and I had a good time. She was able to see that mommy works hard for the money. I frequently take a nap directly after a signing. It's thrilling to meet new readers and tell them about my books, but I am exhausted afterwards. I have friend's who don't like signings because of the constant rejections that happens as you try and put yourself out there. They are tooo long to mention the comments and author gets, but if you want to know some of them, shoot me an e-mail. Especially, if you are a new author and have never signed before. ;)
Well, I ran a Mother's Day raffle to all who purchased a book, it was a gift pack of full size Victoria's Secret Pure Seduction. It smells wonderful. Well, I had a winner and it was Amber.

Romance Slam Jam and more

Hello everyone,
As you all can see, I have two new covers on the site. First is my Healing Hearts cover, this book is in print now. I actually ran a contest for it on the excerpt page for a free autograph print copy of the book. Well that luck read will be getting their book very soon. Next is Vegas Bites: Three of a Kind. My publisher gave me a copy of the new cover at Slam in Chi-town. Don't you just love it? I know I do. Well, it is up on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The only problem is that the online bookstore confused it and placed the cover for Vegas Bites Back on its promo links. Parker Publishing staff knows about it and have contacted them, and we just hope the online bookstores get it right before the book comes out this year.
On to Romance Slam Jam. I had a BLAST with all caps. I saw and hugged old friends and met new ones. The reader workshops were amazing. I had the pleasure of doing my reader workshop with Mary B. Morrison who is outstanding as a spokes woman. It was an honor to be paired with her. The writing workshops put on by esteemed authors in the AA romance industry made the conference a learning experience, as participants was able to raise my hand and ask questions. The evening events were great. I had so much fun dancing and singing with these romance icons my face will be stuck in a smile for weeks to come. The last night was the Emma awards and as always is was a pleasure to see every dolled up in their finery. Well, let me not say dolled without adding that the men x2, Wayne Jordan and Earl Sewell were handsome as well. I got to know these to men of romance, who I might add, held their own among all us women readers/writers.
Wayne J. became a good friend of mine. As a male who reads and writes romance, he never let a moment go by to say how humbled and honored he was to be received in the romance world by writers and readers. Well, the honor was well deserved.
Okay, it is getting late and I have a lot of work to do on my next book. So, I'll talk to you all soon. ;)

Most of my books today were sold to ladies name Kathy. ;-p That has never happened to me before to have not only one, but several ladies with the same name. LOL!

Why am I excited you ask? Because ROMANCE SLAM JAM is just around the corner. This is one of the best conferences. It's where readers and writers come together, rub shoulders, laugh and get to know each other. It's made for readers to hear from new and seasoned African-American romance authors, as well as have their voice heard. It is an amazing event. And it will be in Chicago, so how can you not love that. I can't wait to sink my teeth into a deep dish pizza. Oh, and see other authors as well. LOL! I flew in from Germany my first year and didn't waste a cent because it was so worth every dime. I got to meet Beverly Jenkins, Deatri King-Bey, JM Jeffries, Donna Hill, Gwynne Forster and so many more. The best part is that they got to know me as well and didn't once at like they were mega million bookselling authors (which they are), but sat at the table with me and talked.

Well, I can never say enough about Slam, but on to other showers of Spring. For all of you who have been waiting for Healing Hearts to his the bookshelves in print... wait no more. Well, a little longer becasue 27 April is the day. Phaze, one of my publisher usually put the book at a discount during the day it is released, so make sure you keep your eyes on the site. Oh, my everyone,
This is an exciting weekend coming up for me. I get to be part of a store opening. I am moving on up like the Jefferson's...LOL!! In Virginia Beach where I live, one of the previous bookstore managers who has always been great to new/local authors is opening a new clothing store Christopher and Banks. They are bringing in local authors who they knew. We are not only having a book signing during the Grand Opening... But, I am going to be a part of the RIBBON CUTTING! Yes, myself, Denise Jeffries, Barbara Bradley and Phillis Johnson...
This is going down as one of the most wonderful things in 2008. If any of my readers lives in the Va Bch area, stop by on Saturday and say hi. I'll be signing two of my books. As soon as I have the times and store location, I will post it by Friday night.

Reading is What We Do

Hello everyone,

I must say that Friday night I was at an author appreciation night hosted by a Newport News Virginia book club called "Reading is What We Do". I must say I had a great time. I wasn't one of the featured authors but it doesn't matter because I met some wonderful readers and writers during the book signing. Through this night you could really tell that the book club truly appreciated the time, skill and effort it takes for each author to get a book written, promoted and in the hands of the readers. With a lot of authors that were there, I'd like to give a shout out to Rique Johnson, a suspense author and a great person. His heart is huge and as he always says, there is room in this business for us all. ;-p
I'd also like to mention Trice Hickman. A new author with her first book out called Unexpected Interruptions... It is a great story. I hope this will not be the last book we have from Ms. Hickman, because she truly has talent. So, while all my readers are awaiting my next release pick up book from Rique or Trice. They both are like me and love hearing from readers so drop them a line.

Richmond, I'm coming at a you...

Hello Everyone,
Well, outside of the fab news that I'm squeezed between the pages of some WONDERFUL author's in Vegas Bites Back and that is on sale now. I am on my way to Richmond. Old stomping ground for me in a way. I used to live in Chesterfield, VA for five years while I was in college. I'm a Saint Paul's College graduate, yes I am. Well, on Saturday, Crystal B. Bright (Bridget Midway), Denise Jeffries (Alexis Ke) and myself will be kicking off Borders of West Broad Street African American History month. Yup, it's that time of year again. February is here. Well, it will be on Friday. ;-p
So, if you live in the Richmond area stop in and pick up a book or two or just say hello. The first reader to come in and tell me they saw this post I will have a little gift for you. And yes I will be signing Fire and Desire. I will not be signing Vegas Bites Back because the order for them didn't get put quick enough to have them. Hello everyone,

Well, I've been plugging away at book signings, promoting, contest and writing my next book. Fire and Desire is getting great reviews and the readers are chatting about it. That feels great to hear people liking the book. Well, outside of that great news, I found out this week that my werewolf romance cover us up on my publishers home page. Yeah, it is due out at the end of this year. Yeah! Check out the cover, isn't it great. My story in it is called Passion's Blood. In the next few weeks I will add a link for it like my other books and give you all an excerpt and the blurb. Thanks to all of you for hanging in there with me for Fire and Desire. When I first started reading, I wasn’t sure that I was going to enjoy this story, but I am awful glad that I kept reading. I highly recommend this story to those who love a strong romance with a meaning behind it. A unique aspect to this book was that at the end, it includes discussion questions. It gave me a glimpse into what the author truly hoped I would get out of this book and I must say she did a stellar job of getting her point across.

Poor Tiffany Hatcher has gotten herself in quite a bind. She decided to throw a bachelorette party for one of her friends in Las Vegas and ended up in bed with the stripper. If that wasn’t bad enough, she can hardly remember the night before because she was so drunk and her one night stand actually shows her a marriage certificate stating they were married! Tiffany cannot stay married to this strange man no matter if he is drop dead gorgeous. Trevor Lewis is not a stripper by profession. He was doing his aunt a favor who owns an entertainment business that caters to parties, including dancers for bachelorette parties. When he found out that Tiffany Hatcher, governor’s daughter, party planner and almost fiancée to his bitter enemy Christopher Manning was going to be there, he wasn’t going to give up this chance to meet this woman. Trevor has wanted revenge against Christopher ever since they were in college together. He feels that by seducing Tiffany, he can get back at Christopher. But what Trevor didn’t count on was falling for the beautiful and innocent Tiffany. Tiffany doesn’t really care for Christopher, but only as a friend and what she feels for Trevor is much deeper and sexual. But soon as I read on, this story changed to a very lush and emotional romance between two people who are perfect for each other. Trevor at first comes across as very cold and seems to use Tiffany as an ends to a means. I was also wrong in that aspect, and Trevor became a true hero of the piece. His love and caring nature for Tiffany was very beautiful, and when they both learned to trust one another, that was when the story really soared. Monique Lamont has written a gem of a story with Fire and Desire. She proves that true love can overcome anything and when one lets the past go and looks forward to the future, they end up finding love and joy with those around them and the partner they want to spend the rest of their life with. “How about these dishes, care to help me get them cleaned up?" Jason asked.
"You got it."
Yasmine turned on the radio to the local station and they began to put the kitchen back in order. Jason was treasuring the moment he was having with Yasmine, as she stood in her own environment and unencumbered. He noticed her humming and bobbing her head to the different songs that came across the airwaves. He occasionally joined her in a song or two.
They began washing dishes. He scrubbed them while she dried. She was standing so close that they sporadically bumped elbows or brushed fingers in the rinse water. Jason was using everything in his arsenal to keep his mind focused on the mundane task and not concentrate on how good the bath soap she used smelled, mingling with her natural fragrance.
"This is one of my favorite songs. I don't actually get to hear it enough being buried in my office all the time." Jason commented about a Shakira song that came on the radio, trying to distract himself. He began to sing the lyrics aloud.
"Oh, brotha..." Yasmine was saying.
"What? You ought to be glad you got me when you did, otherwise Miss Hips Don't Lie would've been my future wife. I had it all planned out."
"Riiight. In your dreams buddy. I have a better chance at marrying Morris Chestnut."
"Don't believe me? One day she's going to hear my lyrical style and beg me to accompany her in a duet of love." Jason began to sing again, this time using a spoon as a microphone.
He watched as Yasmine laughed at him, then stepped back away from the sink and began to perform what only could be described as the silliest dance he had ever seen. He was speechless at how fast her movements turned him on as he watched the dramatic playful sway of her hips as she mimicked the artist.
Jason stopped singing and moved toward her slowly.
Yasmine was breathless and beautiful from dancing and laughing.
When he didn't stop his progression until he stood in front of her. He recognized the moment what was on his mind, became clear to her. Her pupils constrict and her eyes began to darken. Neither of them closed the gap. They continued to stare at each other as the atmosphere around them became charged.
Standing this close, he could smell her, the fresh scent of her bath wash played in the air. Some sort of passionate nectar that caused his manhood to tighten and swell.
Yasmine began to take hesitant steps backwards.
That didn't avert him from his goal. He was a man on the prowl, stocking his sexual mate, the one who's pheromones called him—tempted him beyond thought or reason.
The counter stopped Yasmine from retreating any further.
They stood toe to toe, as he reached his hand out and brushed his thumb across her bottom lip. Her pulse beating rapidly on the side of her throat, he watched it, timing his own and finding its rhythm in succession.
Before she could say anything to distract him, he leaned in and connected his mouth to hers. The kiss was magnetic. It seemed to pull all of his thoughts of how wrong this was and the knowledge that it wouldn’t lead anywhere out of his mind and he deepened the kiss and still couldn't seem to get enough.
Yasmine's moan of enjoyment encouraged him. Aiming to level the playing field Jason lifted Yasmine's petite frame up onto the counter top.
His hands now with better access to what was within reach, he located the hem of her T-shirt and began to explore her soft skin underneath.
As Jason's mouth continued its onslaught of attention, his hands moved up her tiny ribcage to her full, firm breasts that were being held captive in a lacy bra.

Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome Monique Lamont. We are glad to have you with us today, Monique.
Thanks, Linda, I’m glad to be here at FAR. To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I sure can. Well, I’ve been writing since sixteen, but in all honesty that was just playing around to entertain my friends. I seriously began to write in my late twenties, around 1998. One day, I became frustrated with a book I had just finished reading. I set it down on the table and told my hubby I was going to the bookstore to get another book. His eyebrows practically slid to the back of his head in shock. I had quite the stack in our computer room unread. Just like most avid readers, I was part of several publisher book clubs. I explained to him that none of the storylines on the other books interested me. So, when I told him about my dissatisfaction with how the stories were going, he said, “Why don’t you write a book and tell the story how you want it to go.” I didn’t jump on the idea. Actually, I was offended by his suggestion, because I’m a reader at heart. However, the writing bee stung me and I’ve been loving creating characters and their love stories ever since.
Monique, I noticed you have a new release out, Fire and Desire. Will you please tell us a little bit about your book?
I would love to, Linda. Fire and Desire was one of the first books I wrote with this level of heat and passion from the beginning. Not that it is erotic, but the chemistry between Tiffany and Trevor ignites off the pages the first time they’re around each other. Tiffany Hatcher’s life is hectic, but predictable, until the Fireman, Trevor Lewis shows up and sets her ablaze with passion. An impulsive decision binds her to a man full of lies and secrets. Is love enough to cure a deep-seated revenge from the past? Or will it destroy everything they desire?
How long does it normally take you to finish a book?
Five years for the first book I wrote…God, bless the critique group and rewrites. But, once I understood the craft of writing, it now takes me roughly four months to complete a book and two more months to polish.
Can you share one lesson you’ve learned since becoming a writer that you feel can help others who are looking to become full time writers?
Don’t give up and keep your butt in the chair. You can’t be a writer if you don’t write. I had to find the time of day that worked best for me to write and stick to it. At five a.m. every morning, I’m at my keyboard.
Do you have a favorite children’s story?
Green eggs and ham. I like it, because I always remind myself to just try something once and see if it works for me. Like writing, I didn’t think it was for me, but five books later…I’m still here.
Who has been the greatest support for you throughout your writing career?
My husband. He is always supporting me no matter what I want to write. His sits and listens to me read stories aloud or talk about a plot for hours. He even takes our daughter out so I can meet a deadline. Family and close friends are my greatest fans, they are the first to buy my books when they release.
How do you keep your ideas fresh and imaginative?
That’s a great question, Linda. I’m a big people watcher. Or maybe I should say couples watcher. I love to see how a man treats his wife or girlfriend. How he smiles at her or rubs her back. I’m constantly asking people, “How did you and your husband meet?” Music inspires me as well. I like to think about a character dancing or singing a song and what would they be going through at that time.
Is any book you have written, your personal favorite?
I have two actually. I love Fire and Desire and Healing Hearts. Both of these books deal with a main character releasing past pain and choosing to love and live again.
How do you know what to name your books or the characters?
For my characters, shamefully, I don’t have any system or method to select a name. However, for my titles they are the first things I select. I won’t even start writing a story without a title. When selecting a title I think about the underline meaning I want a reader to walk away with. For instance, F and D is such a passionate book and it’s with that feeling the hero and heroine learn to be free and find themselves in it.
What do you read for pleasure?
My favorite is historical, African American and 1800 England. I love them.
Besides writing, what is your favorite thing to do every day?
Spend time with my family or watch the Food Network. I love to cook.
If a genie gave you three wise wishes, what would you wish for?
Well, Linda, my first wish would be for the perfect house to fit all of my families needs. Next, I would have to ask to be a full time and successful writer. By that, I mean, having a solid readership, I don’t have to be on the NTBS list. The final one would be for my daughter. That one day she marries a man who loves, respects and treasures her like a heroine at the end of a romance book. A little fairytailish…but, what can I say, ‘I'm a romantic at heart’. LOL!
Do you have another website, other than www.romancingyou.com that you would like to share?
Yes, my blogspot.
What is your favorite season?
Spring, because everything is new and fresh. After the silence of winter waking up to birds singing, always puts a smile on my face. Do you have a favorite candy bar?
Not really. Even though, I love Dove milk chocolates. I’m a Skittles, Starburst and gourmet jellybeans kind of girl.
Now in a world where reality T.V. rules, if you were the latest contestant on “Survivor” and the added twist is that you could take 5 personal items with you what would they be?
Oh, my goodness, these questions always take me hours to answer. My list keeps changing. Ha, ha, ha. First item would be a picture of my family. The second thing is a copy of Indigo by Beverly Jenkins. A good pen. One large journal and finally a Sam’s Club size package of beef jerky. If they allowed me to make my pen and journal one item, then Purell sanitizer would be on the list.

Currently my publisher is having a problem with the print house they are using. I know this is inconvenient for many of you as faithful readers who have been counting down the days along with me, but I ask for you PLEASE to hang in there with me. I've been promised the book will be out this fall.
If you would like to read other things by me, please check out some of my other books in both print or e-book form.

Tomorrow is the day. Yes!! Fire and Desire will finally be released. I am soooooo excited I could exploded. Just the thought of my first book hitting the bookstores and Amazon makes me giddy inside. If you have pre-ordered your copy you still have time, Amazon is even running it at a pre-order discount price...'so act now'. LOL! Tomorrow go to your bookstore and grab your copy, if for some reason they haven't order it... as them to. Barnes and Noble usually are very good at having ALL Parker Publishing books on their shelf the day they release. So, you all know where I will be tomorrow. That's right if I can't be my own fan...then who will. hahaha!

The sounds of running water woke Tiffany to what it felt like to be struck down by a train. Her world was spinning, and she hadn’t even opened her eyes yet. The emptiness of her stomach cramped with pain, along with the subtle aches in various places on her body. Her mouth filmy and dry, as if she had been eating a mixture of cheese and cotton all night.
She dragged her body to a seated position, placed her head in her hands and took a few calming breaths before opening her eyes.
Excruciating minutes passed before the topsy-turvy room righted itself enough for her to look around. Her unfocused gaze traveled the room. A sinking feeling came over her. Things weren’t quite right. Instead of being at the townhouse with her friends, she was in bed at a hotel. Her clothing was scattered in multiple places on the floor, leading her to believe she had been good and drunk when she’d undressed.
The warmth of the starched sheets against her skin made her very aware that her underclothing had met the same fate.
Tiffany leaned back against the headboard with a groan of disgust. Too caught up in her own thoughts of how she’d possibly come to be there, she didn’t hear the shower turn off, nor the door to the bathroom opening.
“Good morning, sunshine,” came a silky baritone voice.
The voice caused heat to radiate up her spin. Tiffany lifted her head slowly, not wanting to believe her ears, or allow the dizziness to attack her again.
While dealing with the shock of her situation, the sight of the male standing in the doorway of the bathroom was undeniable. He was at least six-two, broad shoulders, with skin the color of chocolate satin. It looked smooth and inviting. He stood leaning against the door frame, his body still glistening from his shower. The only form of modesty he showed was the towel loosely tied and riding low on his hips. Tiffany knew he was the guy from the party.
The desire to chase the run away crystal droplets across his chest with her tongue assailed her. A quick deep breath helped to clear her mind. Man, what is coming over me?
Her gaze returned to the sex symbol now lounged against the bathroom doorjamb. He looked different without his mask. The plastic piece, fire engine red it had covered so much of his face that he would be virtually unrecognizable to most people who didn’t have an up-close encounter. Especially to anyone who didn’t know he had light brown eyes, instead of the dark brown contacts he wore during his performance to disguise his eyes.
She was probably the only one from the party who knew he also had a prominent dimple in his left cheek when he smiled. He had only smiled once, at the town house. Just once.
Hmm, perfect fit, his words echoed in her mind. Feeling her nipples tighten at the memory of the day before, she pulled the sheet from her chest to her chin and held it firm to cover the evidence of her arousal. “What are you doing here?” she inquired.
He lifted his eyebrow.
Tiffany realized it was a stupid question. Since she never remembered booking a room, most likely she was the outsider.
“Let me rephrase that…Why am I here?”
“Where else would you be?”
Tiffany always hated it when people answered a question with a question, and being hung over didn’t make it anymore likable. “I was supposed to be with my friends in Las Vegas.”
“Well, one out of two isn’t bad,” he said, in a voice that brought back vague memories of the previous evening, causing her pulse accelerate.
“I’m probably going to regret asking this…but what happened last night?” Finding it hard to make eye contact, Tiffany stared down at her hands.
“You don’t remember…anything?” The skepticism was evident in his voice.
Tiffany’s gaze shot up toward his. “Nothing after mid-night,” she confessed. Glancing at her clothes again, she mumbled, “Can pretty much guess some of it…”
“Hmm…you think?” was all he said.
“It’s not rocket science,” Tiffany informed him. The best defense mechanism—sarcasm.
Tiffany had enough. She needed to get out of this room. She had a plane to catch that evening, and she wanted to put all of the ugliness of the night behind her. It took three attempts before she could negotiate her body off the bed without falling over, while keeping the sheet wrapped around her. Seated on the edge of the bed, something caught her eye on the nightstand. She turned and saw the bold writing across the top. Marriage Certificate.
One hand clutched the sheet behind her, while she reached for the paper with the other hand and read the names across the bottom, just before the signature of the minister of Eternal Bliss Wedding Chapel.
She snapped her head around to face the person she could only assume was the name and signature below hers—Trevor Lewis. “Tell me this is some kind of joke.” Anger catapulted through her body. It had been a long night, and she felt disgusted with herself inside and out. She was not in the mood for any more foolishness.
He looked straight into her eyes. “It’s no joke.”

I am so excited. In seven days my book Fire and Desire will finally be on the bookstore shelves. I'm now in the process of setting up my book signings and interviews. I'm also going to be doing somethings on Shades of Romance so look for me there. As usual, I will be setting up a book talk affair for this book as well. I recently got my edits back from my first werewolf romance. Yup, that's right, Monique is doing a little paranormal. I know, I'm shocked myself. But, I have a lot of fun writing the story. If you've read Vegas Bites and enjoyed it. Then hold on to your reading glasses...Vegas Bites Back will be out next December. Passion's Blood is my story. I got my first round of edits back on Sunday and the editor said she LOVED IT! I was doing a little dance to that news. Then I sat my butt down in a chair and started making the corrections. Two days later and I am done.
Well, this week has been full of events. On Saturday I did a book signing in Hanover, Virginia outside of Richmond. The people there were great. I sold some copies of Double Take and promoted Romance Slam Jam and Fire and Desire.
Speaking of Fire and Desire... it's due out next month. So, if you haven't done your pre-orders on Amazon yet...there is no time like the present. :)
Now, I am working on the second book in the hero series...Restrained Desire. I am soooo in love with this hero. Actually, I fall in love with all of my hero. *Monique's grinning* But, this hero allows me to play around in an area I love...no, not sex, FOOD! I love to cook. I live on the Food network when I'm not writing or spending time with my family. Now, I have a reason to eat at nice restaurants and stack up on more culinary arts cookbooks. Yum, yum!

The Paperback Diva Interviews Yvette Hines

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Andrea Jackson, better known as the Paperback Diva. Here's some of that discussion.

What is your genre(s)? Years ago, I would have only said contemporary romance. However, in the last four months my writing has become very fluid. Therefore, the best thing to say is I write what pays the bills. No, actually, I write sensual contemporary romance and erotica mostly, but I have been known to pen a paranormal or two.

Recent/upcoming publications? I have a few stories coming out in the next few months. I have Freedom’s Quest (Merlicious 2) in July 07, Fire and Desire in stores September 07 and Passion’s Blood (Vegas Bites Back Anthology) in 2008. I’ve been a busy little bee.

Other news or announcements about your writing? Yeah, I’m no longer writing in a tent anymore. LOL! The only other announcement is I’ll be on the bookstore shelves in September for the first time. Very excited about that.

What made you take up writing seriously? I couldn’t read a book, with out an alternate story coming to mind and I would get so mad because the story didn’t end the way I thought. Finally, my husband said, if no one is writing the story you want to read than you write it. I was pissed (excuse my French). I told him “I’m a reader, not a writer.” I was insulted, but then the stories in my head began to nag and I could rest with out writing them done.

Have you ever experienced writers block? How do you cure it? Not writer’s block, but lazy writer. You know the one that checks her e-mails when she should be writing. Talks on the phone about stories when she should be writing. Ordering more coffee at Starbucks when she should be writing. But, never writer’s block. I cure it by kicking myself and saying get back to work Monique Lamont. Phew!

Describe your dream working environment. A coffee shop library. Or in my own office built in my house. Wall to ceiling bookshelves, artwork all around me, thick plush carpet, a chase lounge in the corner and cheery wood office furniture. Yeah…

Ratatouille

This week has been full of exciting adventures. I got the opportunity to travel through the western side of Jamaica. Oh, my what relaxation and fun. Negril is soooo beautiful. I was doing a research for my interracial short story I'm plotting out now. The people there were great, that sat down with me for hours as I asked them about their culture, customs and way of life. Talk about dancing. I learned how to whined it up. Lots of fun and even braved the microphone to sing "Hello" by Lionel Richie. I must have been out of my mind...LOL! But, I have fun!

When I returned, my hubby took me to see Ratatouille. Perfect!! My hero in my second book in my hero series is a chef so, that movie was research and laughs. This book will be a first Monique Lamont interracial romance. If you haven't seen this movie you must. Even if you don't have children you will enjoy it.

Exciting news! My book Fire and Desire is now list on the home page of Parker Publishing!!! Yeah! It comes out this September. Check out the cover... is that man not sexy or what!! Meow, baby. LOL!

Well, it is the 4th of July and I don't have alllllllll day to write so, back to the grind for me. Talk to you all soon.
